Groundwater Banking
|
|
One alternative for utilizing the excess allocation of San Luis Obispo County’s State Water may be via a groundwater banking program in the North County, since the Paso
Robles Groundwater Basin is close to infrastructure with capacity to deliver the water. With grant funding from the Proposition 50 Integrated Regional Water Management
Program, the County is currently utilizing the model of the Paso Robles Groundwater Basin to first evaluate the physical feasibility of banking water in the Basin without negative
impacts. The results of the study will then be incorporated into the County’s overall water master planning efforts leading to recommendations on projects, programs and/or
policies with the greatest potential to improve water supply reliability throughout the County.
